The advent of the internet has brought many benefits to our society. Unfortuntely, its ability to connect us has also brought with it the ability for people with hostile or violent beliefs to connect with each other as well. While the last few years has seen the public has become more aware of the dangers of online misogynistic communities; there is still a lack of understanding of the extent of the danger posed by these communities. The invoiluntary celibate (incel) movement is a community of violently misogynistic men who have committed acts of terror across the Western world. This presentation will outline their belief systems, their use of the internet, the risk of violence and policy recommendations. Danielle is former senior analyst and department led monitoring and developing policy to address violent misogynistic communites. She has worked with inter-governmental bodies, governemntal bodies and social media companies internationally including The White House, Department of Homeland Security, UK Home Office, European Commission and Meta. Danielle is now an freelance consultant working on policy and resarch to address online harms with a focus on misogyny. |
